Celtics Off To Good Start

Our girls basketball team is off to a good start to the 08-09 season. After a disappointing loss to Smithville to start the season, the Lady Celtics have bounced back with back to back 30 point victories against conference opponents Center and Sedalia Smith-Cotton.

In the game against Smithville the girls were unable to find their offensive power. We were tied with Smithville after the 3rd quarter but ran out of gas in the 4th quarter and outscored 23-3. Defensively the Lady Celtics looked impressive for much of the game creating 22 turnovers but were unable to create transition baskets off those turnovers.

It was a very much different game against Center. The Lady Celtics won 63-33. We were led in scoring by Patrice Jackson with 15 points, Hailey Houser had 10 points and Ashley Clark and Breanna Ransburg each with 9 points. The Lady Celtics full-court press was too much for the Yellowjackets to handle. The victory put the Celtics 1-0 in conference play.

For a second straight game the Lady Celtics posted a 63-33 score by beating Sedalia Smith Cotton. The Lady Celtics were able to get any shot they wanted in the first quarter but struggled with putting the ball in the basket and only held a 12-8 lead after the 1st quarter. They took a 29-16 lead into the half. Their aggressive full-court press created numerous steals in the second half which the Lady Celtics were able to convert into lay-ups. The Lady Celtics were led in scoring by Hailey Houser with 16 points followed by Ashley Clark's 10 points and Alex Smith and Paulina Pengelley each contributed 9 points. The victory puts their conference record to 2-0 and they are 2-1 overall.
