Lady Celtics Continue Winning Ways

During the week of January 5th the Lady Celtics had 3 games and were able to win all 3 of those games against Clinton, St.James Academy and St.Pius X.

The team started off the week with a 59-15 victory over Clinton. The Lady Celtics held Clinton scoreless in the 2nd quarter with their relentless defense. Junior Alex Smith was the hot hand for the Celtics as she drained 4 3-pointers and led the team in scoring with 13 points. She was followed by senior Jasmyn Franks with 10 points, while both Hailey Houser and Victoria Hurtt each contributing 8 points apiece in the victory. The Celtics used their full-court pressure to wear out the Clinton Cardinals.

The Lady Celtics had to turn around the very next day and play St. James Academy in Kansas. It was a close game for much of the 1st half with the half-time score being 24-17. The Celtics jumped out with a 8-0 run to open the 3rd quarter. The Lady Celtics deep bench was just too much for the Thunder of St.James. The final score was 49-33. The Celtics were led in scoring by junior Ashley Clark with 12 points, junior Alex Smith with 10 points and senior Paulina Pengelley added 8 points.

The final game of the week was against conference rival St. Pius X warriors. The Celtics used there full-court press to harass and fluster the Warriors for much of the 1st half. The Celtics held St. Pius scoreless for the entire 1st half with the score at half-time being 24-0. The Celtics lost some of their focus and intensity in the 2nd half but went on to win the game 38-12 to improve their record to 7-2 and 5-0 in conference. The Celtics were led in scoring by sophomore Victoria Hurtt with 8 points while seniors Patrice Jackson and Jasmyn Franks each contributing 6 points in the contest.
